When we start learning a new instrument, or a new piece of music, we are always told by our instrument tutors to “practice.” But, what does practice mean, and how does one practice? This article will aim to help you out on the meaning of achieving your musical goals through the art of practice.

Practice, I believe, is something you do as a musician on a personal level. The definition of practice to myself and you is always developing and evolving, depending on the circumstances and situation of life we may be in. The definition of practice changes and shifts when we are emotionally invested in the music we aspire to play, or the musicians or people in the music community we want to see and moving towards such investment. But this can be overwhelming over time and feel like it is a chore to aspire to our influences constantly. It is a skill to become an artist of sound, and here I am to help you out on how you can best approach defining practice for yourself.
